Dear RAGBRAI participants,

As Mayor of the City of Independence, it is my honor to welcome RAGBRAI participants to our community.

The selection of Independence as an overnight stop comes at a particularly meaningful time for our community, as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Independence was founded on the same values that shaped our nation: resilience, service, and a belief in community, and hosting RAGBRAI during this historic milestone feels especially fitting.

Independence is a town built on hard work, hospitality, and heart. Being chosen to host reflects the spirit of our residents who show up for one another every day. From our city staff, volunteers, and civic groups to our local businesses, churches, and neighborhoods, this is truly a community effort.
To the riders, support teams, volunteers, and other guests who will roll into Independence: Welcome! You’ll find a town that knows how to open its doors, lend a hand, and celebrate together. We’re known for our beautiful riverfront, historic downtown, and the kind of Mid-West friendliness that turns visitors into friends. For one unforgettable night, we look forward to sharing it all with you.

Our hosting of an overnight stop is not just a celebration of cycling; it’s a celebration of Iowa’s small towns, civic pride, and the enduring spirit that has carried communities like ours forward for generations.
We look forward to welcoming you to Independence on July 23rd.

With pride,

Brad Bleichner, Mayor
City of Independence, IA
